Riverside Hospital Birth Photography
I have been extremely blessed to be able to photograph Krista and Adam’s Riverside Hospital Birth Photography story and hope you enjoy reading about it!
We all had a huge surprise on July 21st when Krista’s water broke. For a little boy who wasn’t due until mid September, he sure wanted to make his debut early! The goal of the hospital staff was to delay the birth for a week so that the little man could make it to the 34 week mark. The week of delay was done so that his lungs would have greater development.
When her water broke initially, Adam and Krista discovered that they would be expecting close to 4.1lbs of pure joy who would need to spend his first bit of life in the NICU.
Even though this little man decided to come early, he was protected in prayers and incredibly loved.
Hundreds of people joined together in prayer for this little one and their prayers were answered many times over.
Krista updated her friends, family and others praying for her and the baby via Facebook and I have included her words to tell her story. The morning after her water broke and her first night in the hospital, Krista shared these words with her friends and family:
“The Lord told me last night that I am cradled in the palm of His hands & that He loves this little boy more than I could fathom. Yesterday morning I was reminded also that we are not called to a spirit of fear in Christ but rather a strength & fearlessness beyond our dreams! Thank you all who are standing firm in Christ with our family during this time! Your overwhelming love is felt by us & your prayers are keeping this little boy happily cooking inside of me a little longer! Though we are anxious to see his face, we hope he waits out this week like the doctors would prefer him to do.”
The outpouring of love and prayers from everyone was amazingly beautiful.
There is no doubt in my mind that these prayers were working.
Two days later after waiting in labor and delivery for 48 hours, Krista sent an incredible update for everyone to read:
“From all of your lips to God’s ears!! The power of prayer in the body of Christ is overwhelming me!! Last night I was moved from labor & delivery to the high risk floor, which means we are stable enough to not need emergency attention anymore. My water broke Monday around 3:30pm & by Tuesday evening at bedtime Adam & I were amazed at how tiny my belly looked after 24 hrs of fluid lost. Last night when I went to bed, my belly was big & puffy again with a very energetic little boy inside because he is producing amniotic fluid way faster than I’m losing it!! If that’s not an answer to prayer, I don’t know what is!! So thank you to all who are lifting us up in your homes & prayer circles!! Our mighty God is not ignoring us, He is hearing our cries & He is meeting every need! We will meet this little boy no later than Monday unless The Lord decides to bring him sooner 😉 love you all so much & Adam & I cannot thank you enough for all of the support!!”
The night Krista was moved to the high risk floor, she was blessed with a nice, hot shower! Staying in the hospital for days really allows you to appreciate the little things in life (and an incredible nursing staff to grant them!)
On July 26th, Krista began having contractions more frequently and lead many to believe that the little man may arrive earlier than his scheduled induction for Monday the 28th.
Once again Krista’s words to her family and friends who have been praying ceaselessly in the background:
“I lay here and continue to feel the covering of your prayers! The high risk floor is a little out of control today with more patients than they usually have. I have been told by several nurses & doctors today that coming to my room is like a moment of calm for them to just chat with me. I’m thinking God’s hand has something to do with that 🙂 I’m so thankful for such amazing nurses & care that we have had here! Baby boy still hasn’t received the memo that he should be stressed out, so he’s happy as can be, thank goodness. My body is going back & forth a little today, so we will see if he stays in until Monday. Either way, no one around here seems overly concerned if he comes a day earlier at this point. Thank you again for all of your prayers! They are working!!!”
That night there was cause for a sleepover and the boys from the Columbus Ohio Police Department (Adam’s precinct) spoiled Krista with Gigi’s cupcakes and yummy salads. The morning after the sleepover consisted of waking up to “I Love Lucy,” another hot shower and eating Gigi’s cupcakes for breakfast (for dessert of course… there was oatmeal first!). Also, make sure to read Krista’s goals and daily activities written on the board!
and then came the birthday!
Krista posted one more sweet note on the morning of her scheduled induction before the little man made his arrival:
“Heavenly Father,
Today we praise You and the voices of your people for the success of this past week! We have cried out to You and You have moved Your mighty hand of protection over this baby boy. Today, I come to You to ask that Your name be glorified as we bring in another one of your children into this world! Only You know the full story of his life with all the details of its purpose, including the timing of his birth 🙂 May He know you quickly as a child and have a heart set on fire for You all the days of his life! We cannot praise you and thank you enough for the blessing of his life! I ask for continued protection over my body and his as we endure the process of labor & delivery today! I will find peace and rest in You today knowing that You already knew the details of this day before I was born myself! We love You and praise You and look forward to watching Your hands cover us today!
Amen!”
Around 11 AM that morning, the labor and delivery team came upstairs to the high risk floor in order to transport Krista to her room in labor and delivery.
after being transported…. we waited.
Also, check out the little guy’s hilarious Grandmas who were cold and trying to find the heat in a room set to 85 degrees!
Some people may think that waiting for a baby to arrive could be boring, or chaotic even… but it isn’t.
It can actually be a lot of fun.
I mean, there were doughnuts and laughter (mainly due to Kristen Wiig and her hilarious SNL skits)! There were plenty of jokes and even a bright orange bouncy ball 😉
Waiting for this little man was definitely fun.
We even had another special visit and lunch delivery by the boys in blue before everything was made ready for the big debut!
We all made a little visit out to the waiting area to allow Krista some alone time (also so that she didn’t have to watch us eat our lunches). These Grandmas are absolutely glowing with excitement while waiting for their new little guy. We also (quite ironically) were in the waiting room for the iconic scene during Rocky… How fitting that it was playing just when the little man was about to arrive!
After making it back in to the Labor and Delivery room, Krista’s nursing staff, the terrific three, were making sure everything was about ready for the baby’s arrival. Krista’s body was also working hard to prepare for their new addition!
The time of their son’s arrival was coming more quickly now and Adam and Krista were anxious to meet him!
Then the time finally came and the Doctor arrived! Dr. Krantz came in and prepared to deliver the new baby boy while nurses prepared for his arrival as well.
Once the Doctor arrived, everything moved quite quickly. Adam and Krista’s new addition was a part of this world in no time at all. Everyone had been praying for him to have a good cry when he entered the world so that it may help with his lungs… Let me tell you, he got out a really good one!
Everyone meet Uriah Kade!
Uriah Kade was born at 6:58 PM 5 lbs 4 oz and 16 inches long!
Finally Mama got to hold her new little one. Their connection was so sweet and extremely moving. It was such a blessing and incredible moment to watch their first few minutes together and their bond strengthen.
After just a few short minutes together, it was time for Uriah to be moved to the NICU and into some of the best and most caring hands.
Now you’re probably wondering what a girl does after she gives birth to a miracle baby and he is swept away to the NICU….
you are incredibly fortunate because you actually get to see exactly that!
Ready?
She eats a Popsicle.
and checks her phone…
and has a minute to herself to finally take a deep breath and relax.
also… I couldn’t help myself from showing a picture of her nurse’s awesome shoes!
After Krista was ready, she was able to reunite with Adam and their new addition in the NICU. Their time together was brief but very precious! And seriously, those prayers did wonders on this little man! He was expected to be just 4 lbs and ended up being 5 lbs and 4 oz! He had no trouble breathing either! Our God does answer prayers and it is incredibly beautiful to see people come together for a common need.
At the very end of the night, there was a visit from a very special friend. After the short visit, it was well past bedtime and definitely time for Krista and Adam to get some much deserved rest!
A couple days later I visited little Uriah in the NICU and snapped a couple shots for an update!
On Saturday August 2nd, Krista posted another update about the progression of their son Uriah:
“What a crazy couple of weeks it’s been!!! God’s blessings have been upon our little family every moment of this adventure! Today, my day consists of snuggling, feeding & changing tiny little diapers here in the NICU:) all of these things making my heart even more full than I could’ve imagined before we even talked about a second baby. Who knew my heart needed another one so badly? God did and it must have been urgent to get him here so quickly, haha! Uriah Kade Daugherty, at 5 days old, birthed at only 34 weeks, has almost accomplished his short list of things he needs to do to come home!! We are almost there and after talking with nurses & doctors today, they are very surprised by this little fighter! But we know God’s blessing is upon him & making him strong! I pray that God be glorified by this little life and that he has touched all that have cared for him as they have all touched mine, Adam’s & Killian’s lives! I have learned one thing here in the last 2 weeks, that there is nothing better than a great nursing staff!! From high risk nurses to labor & delivery & now the NICU nurses, we have experienced some of the best & I will never forget them!! Please continue to pray for Mr. Uriah when he might cross your mind, he may be a fighter but he is still just a little guy:) thank you so much!! We love you all!!”
I really hope you enjoyed reading and watching the progression of Krista’s Riverside Hospital Birth Photography story! Feel free to comment on this post and even share it with others! The little man is home and healthy now. Keep praying for him and their family. Adam and Krista are undeniably grateful for your prayers!
